Choose work

We are setting up a work experience programme offering work experience placements for young people aged 18-24 to help them get into work.

Choose Work is an initiative set up by Chichester in Partnership as part of its "Get people into work" strategy. This project involves partnership working between us and Jobcentre Plus. It helps young jobseekers build their CVs and gain valuable experience in a bid to find a job.

We are also working with companies and partner organisations in the Chichester District to encourage them to provide similar placements.

The young people are referred to the scheme by Jobcentre Plus. They can undertake a work experience placement of between two to eight weeks. They can still claim Jobseekers Allowance, so they can get a proper stint in a business, gain valuable experience and get a decent entry on their CV. The work experience co-ordinator can also support local businesses to develop a work experience programme.

Councillor Myles Cullen, Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism and Car Parks, says: "We are determined to do everything we can to help improve job opportunities for our young residents and work experience will help local young people gain the experience they need to build a strong CV with references and in turn secure a job. I would call on all local businesses to get involved and offer young people the chance to show what they have to offer."

Employers interested in offering work experience placements should contact Steve Hill, the council's Work Experience Co-ordinator, by email at
