In September 2012 the partnership identified the priority to create/ promote more apprenticeship in Chichester district as a way of helping the local economy and local residents.

A task and finish group was set up consisting of:

  • Chichester college
  • Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • National Apprenticeship service
  • Job Centre Plus
  • West Sussex County Council
  • Chichester District Council

The group agreed that there should be a joint local approach to the promotion of apprenticeships especially with to small and medium sized businesses that are prolific in the Chichester area. with this in mind the group agreed to :

  • Deliver a number of breakfast meetings aimed at small and medium sized businesses. Where they can learn about apprenticeships.
  • Jointly promote National Apprenticeship week.
  • Investigate other ways to promote apprenticeships

The group jointly promoted National Apprenticeship Week with a number of managers from partner organisations shadowing apprentices for the day. the college found that the number of queries about apprenticeships had increased.

One breakfast meeting has been held with attendance form 15 different businesses. 9 of which are moving forward with taking on apprenticeships. Another breakfast meeting will be held in June for the North of the district.
